Interstate 26 closed after crash kills truck driver

(Charleston-AP) February 11, 2007 - An eight-mile section of Interstate 26 in Dorchester County was shut down for about four hours after a truck driver died when his 18-wheeler smashed into trees.

Highway Patrol Lance Corporal Paul Brouthers says the interstate was closed because of concern that hazardous chemicals may have been on board.

Brouthers says the accident ripped apart the cab of the eastbound tractor-trailer rig and ejected the driver who died at the seen. Brouthers says the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel.

Investigators did not identify the driver.
