Optomap Retinal Exam

Most people consider an eye exam to be an inspection of the front of their eyes. However, doctors needs to examine the back of your eye, the retina, to check that it is healthy and not damaged or showing signs of disease. Many eye diseases, if detected at an early stage, can be treated successfully without total loss of vision.

Obtaining Optomap Retinal Images is comfortable, quick and very simple. By looking into the Optomap Eyepiece, the digital image of your retina is captured in less than a second. A small flash indicates the image has been taken. Nothing touches your eye during the process. The image is then immediately available for our doctors to review with you.

The Optomap Retinal Exam provides our doctors with important information about your health, without the need for uncomfortable pupil dilation.

"This new technology allows us to obtain instant retinal images and provide the highest level of care and convenience to our patients. The images are excellent for detecting early changes in hypertension, diabetes, and glaucoma and providing a permanent baseline to compare to images taken at a later date."
- Dr. Tom Hoskins

The Optomap Retinal Images are stored electronically so our doctors have a permanent record of the condition of your retina. This is very important in assisting our doctors to detect and measure any changes to your retina the next time your eyes are examined.
