Walhalla man charged with stealing cemetery vases

(Walhalla-AP) June 6, 2006 - A Walhalla man has been charged with taking more than 200 vases from four Oconee County cemeteries to sell for scrap metal. Two other men also have been charged in connection with the thefts.

Deputies say the vases are worth about $300 each, making the total value around $60,000. Most have been recovered.

Oconee sheriff's Captain Mike Crenshaw says 33-year-old Brian Denver Crowe is charged with desecration of graves and grand larceny in thefts at four cemeteries. 22-year-old Ralph Jake Goss of Walhalla has been charged with one count of desecration of graves and grand larceny in connection with one theft.

65-year-old Richard Willie Cobb has been charged with receiving and possessing stolen goods.
