Coast Guard rescues woman before catamaran sinks near Georgetown

(Charleston-AP) December 18, 2005 - The Coast Guard says it has rescued a Rhode Island woman after her catamaran was disabled after striking something in the water near Charleston.

Officials say 60-year-old Alicia Beaudin from Warwick, Rhode Island was rescued Sunday morning after sending out a distress call.

The Coast Guard says it tried to tow the 34-foot catamaran named Alicia In Wonderland back to shore, but it was taking on too much water and sank.

Officials say the boat will be salvaged later.
