Banjo legend Scruggs injured in fall

(Myrtle Beach-AP) November 27, 2005 - Bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs has fallen while performing at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, suffering minor injuries.

A security guard says the 81-year-old Scruggs walked off the stage Saturday night, striking his head and suffering a cut above his eye.

The guard says the glare of the bright stage lights apparently got in Scruggs eyes and he could not see others trying to warn him he was about to fall.

Scruggs was treated in the emergency room at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and had been discharged by Sunday evening.

Scruggs has been playing the banjo since he was four and won a Grammy in both 1969 and 2001 for recordings of his instrumental "Foggy Mountain Breakdown."
