White is the new orange when it comes to pumpkins

(Chicago, Illinois-AP) Oct. 28, 2005 - Growers and grocers with albino pumpkins are making a killing.

Parents and Halloween party planners say the pale pumpkins are more versatile than their traditional orange cousins. They also cost a bit more.

The albinos are called Ghost pumpkins, Snowballs, Luminas or Caspers, presumably a reference to the friendly ghost.

Those who carve the pumpkins will find they still have orange flesh beneath the white rind, adding to their ghostly appeal when a candle is put inside.

One grower in Illinois says he decided to grow six times as many albinos because they've proven so popular.
