Some stations being investigated for gas price increases

(Greenville - AP) October 21, 2005 - Attorney General Henry McMaster's office has opened civil investigations into a handful of gas stations that raised prices after Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast nearly two months ago.

McMaster's spokesman Trey Walker says the office received more than one-thousand complaints about increasing gas prices but have boiled the investigation to about seven stations to determine if prices were raised illegally to more than four dollars and 50-cents a gallon.

Walker says the attorney general's office has subpoenaed records to see if there are any violations of the state's Unfair Trade Practices Act.

Company names have not been released.
