HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – More than 20 people gathered at Carolina Forest Community Church on Tuesday to shed tears, comfort one another and remember 19-year-old Rachel Mullen, who died in a car crash Monday night.

Mullen was remembered as a young lady who loved to dance and to laugh.

“She laughed all the time. She made the greatest jokes and the silliest comments just to make anyone smile,” said friend Mackenzie Lowrie. “That’s all she wanted. She didn’t have a mean bone in her body.” Lowrie added, "She was just one of the best friends you could ever have. It’s a real shame we lost her.”

Mullen died in a two-vehicle crash that happened after 5 p.m. Monday on Carolina Forest Boulevard. News of her death left her friends in a state of disbelief.

“I didn’t believe it. We weren’t sure for a while and I didn’t believe (it), I didn’t,” Lowrie said. “I mean it was Rachel. She was such a careful driver all the time. She never messed around and when I found out, I called all my friends and no one knew really. Somehow we ended up at Conway hospital and found out the news it was devastating and we all just hugged and cried.”

Autumn Melton recalled the time she and Mullen spent together at the University of South Carolina, where both were students.

“She was always such a great friend to me. We both went to college together and just spent nights in the library together just crying and stressing about school and stressing about life, and she was always there for me when I needed her.”

Now, Mullen’s friends are going to be there for each other in their time of grief.

“Rachel was the best person I knew and I can’t believe she is the one this happened to, and it just breaks my heart knowing she isn’t with us anymore and I’ll never see her dance or laugh again,” Lowrie said through tears.
