CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The Conway Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two people who allegedly abandoned their children at a Conway business on June 5.

Jonathan Kiwa Davis, 51, of Conway, and Sarah Mae Smith, 36, of Myrtle Beach, are wanted for unlawful neglect of a child.

On June 5, police responded to Health Care Partners at 1608 Main Street after a receiving a report that a mother was “having some issues” with her children, a Conway Police Department incident report confirms. After the children were reportedly left, DSS responded to the scene to care for them.

"After counseling with the people at the business and being told they are not taking responsibility, do not leave your child here, they left the child and just left the scene," said Conway Police Chief Dale Long.

The children were 23 months old and four months old.

"There's plenty of resources out there and there's really no reason that you would walk away from this without seeing at least what help is there and what is available to you," said Long.

Wanda Alford works across the street from the facility. She said it makes her sad but at the same time it doesn't surprise her.

"People have so much on them this day and time and their tempers are short and i think sometimes they'll take it out on a kid that's helpless," said Alford.

Police issued warrants for the suspects on June 15. According to the report, Davis was added to the case after a witness said he was present when the juveniles were abandoned at the facility.

Anyone with any information on the location of Davis or Smith is asked to contact their local police department or the Conway Police Department at 843-248-1790.
