COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Former South Carolina star A'ja Wilson might need to make a little more room in her trophy case.
The consensus Women's College Basketball Player of the Year has been nominated for an ESPY in the Best College Athlete category.
Wilson led the Gamecocks to Elite Eight this past season on her way to winning the Naismith Trophy, the Lisa Leslie Award, the Wade Trophy, the Wooden Award, and the AP Women's Player of the Year Award among others. The former Heathwood Hall Highlander was also named the SEC Player of the Year for the third time.
Wilson averaged just shy of 23 points and 12 rebounds per game in her senior campaign with USC. Following her final year in Columbia, Wilson was drafted by the Las Vegas Aces as the top overall pick in the WNBA Draft.
Currently, Wilson is fourth among the WNBA's top scorers. She averages 20.8 points per game with 8.2 rebounds per contest. Her scoring output is tops among all rookies in the league.
Also listed in the ESPY poll for Best College Athlete is former Oklahoma quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, Wooden Award winner and Villanova point guard Jalen Brunson, and Olympic gold medalist and Stanford swimmer Katie Ledecky.
The ESPYS will air on July 18 at 8 p.m.
