KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A woman is behind bars in Kershaw County in connection to the fatal shooting of a 54-year-woman whose body was found on Monday.
Stacey McClintock Catoe, 43, was arrested by deputies on Thursday and is charged for the murder of Brenda Marie Coates.
Deputies say they responded to the intersection of Catoe Road and US 521 in Kershaw on Monday, June 17 just after 9:30 p.m. for a shooting incident. This is where the body of Brenda Coates was found with a gunshot wound to the neck and investigators were told that Stacey Catoe's car was seen leaving the scene.
As deputies tried to get in touch with Catoe, a search warrant was obtained for her car and her home. Investigators were eventually able to get in touch with Catoe and the search warrant was executed. Inside Catoe's car deputies found a .380 caliber pistol and one .380 spent shell casing. Catoe refused to talk to authorities until she contacted her attorney.
Catoe's car was seized as well as the car the victim's body was found in. A .380 caliber bullet was found in the victim's car and deputies sent the bullet along with the spent shell casing and gun that was found in Catoe's car to SLED for processing. Investigators confirmed that the bullet which killed Coates did come from the .380 pistol that was taken from Catoe's car and an arrest warrant was issued.
Catoe turned herself into authorities on Thursday at the Kershaw County Detention Center at about 2 p.m. Deputies say she has one prior arrest for DUI from ?back in 1997.
