MUNFORD, TN (WMC) -

A second-grade teacher and her husband found themselves in handcuffs when an undercover narcotics sting targeted their home.

James and Jaime Byram are being held on a $50,000 bond at Tipton County Jail. They were arrested in their Munford home Monday afternoon.

"She's the last person in the whole world that I would've thought this of," Sonny Parsons said.

Parsons' grandson is one of the students in Jaime second-grade class. He said Jaime is a popular teacher at Munford Elementary School.

Tipton County Schools Superintendent Buddy Bibb said Jaime has been suspended without pay, and the district is currently looking to find her replacement.

"We are concerned. We've got an 8-year-old we want educated, plus how are we going to break it to these children...what's going on here?" Parsons said.

Undercover investigators searched the Byrams home on February 12. There they found 5 pounds of marijuana, LSD strips, ecstasy pills, Xanax pills, and a large amount of cash.

James told police he'd been selling marijuana since November 2017. He said he'd receive around 2-3 pounds of the drugs every month. He said he and his wife would package and sell the drugs.

Jaime admitted to investigators that she had packaged marijuana at the direction of her husband.

Investigators said they do not believe any drug activity took place on school grounds.

Doug Justice lives feet away from the house and saw the police activity Monday.

"It was right here! All of us neighbors are shocked," Justice said.

Despite being shocked, other neighbors said the arrests made sense in retrospect. They said the couple lived a lavish lifestyle that included them taking expensive vacations regularly.

Meanwhile, the Byrams' two children were placed in the custody of relatives.
