CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The pastor of the Emanuel AME Church says he is outraged over a Congressional candidate's ad in which he says uses the Emanuel 9 for political gain.

Rev. Eric Manning addressed an ad by Sheri Few which Manning says portrays Few's opposing candidates as weak for voting in favor of the removal of the Confederate flag on State House grounds.

"This ad is completely out of bounds and completely distasteful," Manning said.

Few had recently released an attack advertisement against two of her opponents who voted for removing the Confederate flag from the State House grounds.

Clutching an AR-15, Few blasts Tommy Pope and Ralph Norman for voting for the flag's removal in the wake of the racially-motivated shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston.

"Weak politicians are too quick to blame a horrible tragedy on a flag or a gun or even free speech, and that's how bad laws are made," Few said.

"To be very honest, the events of a racist committing murder is something that should never be utilized to advance someone's political career," Manning said.

Manning said he would be addressing the ad with his congregation.

"I want to make sure this community continues to know that Mother Emanuel will continue to speak out against injustices that we see throughout not only in this community, not only in this state but dare I say the world," Manning said."But also to make sure to continue to make sure we protect the memory, the legacy of the Emanuel 9, the survivors, the families and the church.”

Few is facing Pope, Norman, Tom Mullikin, Chad Connelly, and Kris Wampler to fill the seat vacated by former Rep. Mick Mulvaney who was appointed by the Trump Administration to head the Office on Management and Budget in Washington DC.

Manning said he is not endorsing any political candidates, and said the candidates Few singled out, "showed courage and grace and took a stand for what was right."

Manning says he hasn't spoken to Few, but says he may reach out to her.
