RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WIS) -

Three former correctional officers have been arrested and are charged with attempted murder, according to the South Carolina Department of Corrections.

Arrest warrants show Jaquan Smith, 24, Pernell Fogle, 24, and Jarrell Boyan, 26, all face charges of attempted murder and misconduct in public office.

The incident happened on Oct. 6 at the Kirkland Correctional Institute on Broad River Road in Richland County. According to the warrants, the three then-officers stabbed an inmate four times in the torso while the inmate was handcuffed behind his back in his cell.

The Department of Corrections said all three of the officers were placed on administrative suspension without pay and were fired on Wednesday of this week.
