A young girl remains in serious condition after she was shot while riding in a car near uptown Charlotte Thursday evening.
The incident happened just before 9:15 p.m. while the girl was riding in a car with three adults and another child on 12th Street. Officials said another vehicle - a Nissan Sentra - pulled beside the victim's car and began firing into the vehicle, striking the 5-year-old.
The driver then went to a gas station in the 1500 block of North Tryon Street and called 911. Medic got to the scene and took the 5-year-old girl to Carolinas Medical Center.
Police say the girl, whose name has not been released, underwent surgery. She was listed in serious condition Friday.
Police said it appears one of the adults in the victim vehicle and the shooter are known to one another.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS, or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
