(Columbia) May 18, 2005 - Pat in Columbia says, "My husband and I have been bombarded with emails telling us our account number and password are attached, with a URL to click." She says I know it's some sort of scam, and asks if we can shed any light on this new annoyance.
This is called a phishing scam. Con-artists send out e-mails that look legit - asking you to confirm your account information. One email ha the Charter One logo, it even had what looks like an official link to the bank, but it's all bogus. Never respond to emails requesting personal information, and never click on the links. You should never respond to emails requesting personal information
