MCENTIRE JOINT NATIONAL GUARD BASE, S.C. (AP) - About 200 members of the South Carolina Air National Guard have returned after a four-month tour of duty in South Korea.

Family and friends of the airmen greeted them Wednesday at the Joint Air National Guard Base near Eastover.

The men and women in the unit were sent to South Korea and supported about a dozen F-16 Fighting Falcon jets during the deployment at Osan Air Base.

The unit was part of a security package that supported members of the U.S. Air Force as they worked to deter threats to U.S. allies and U.S. forces in the Pacific region.

Guard spokesman Senior Master Sgt. Edward Snyder said the unit was the first South Carolina Air Guard unit to serve in South Korea since the 1950s.
