Thousands are expected to gather on Devine Street this weekend for the 6th annual Oktoberfest in Columbia.

Hosted by the Incarnation Lutheran Church, the festival is a celebration of German heritage.

Organizers say on average they go through about 1,000 pounds of schnitzel, 1,000 pounds of bratwurst, 800 pounds of potatoes, and nearly 10,000 servings of beer. This year, nearly 7,000 people are expected to attend.

"We cook authentic German food ourselves and coming here this not a place to come back and have a beer," Pastor Mary Anderson said. "We have really good homemade food that's here. The pastries are made by the members and friends as well they start baking back in June. They've made 10,000 cookies."

The festival is free and open to the public. It ends on Sunday.
