COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Owens Field Park in Columbia is getting a makeover.
Saturday morning city officials along with the Ray Tanner Foundation broke ground on park renovations. The ball fields and walkways will be getting an upgrade. The renovations also include a new Miracle League Baseball field, which is a custom-designed, rubberized field for children with mental and physical disabilities.
"This is so exciting, everybody should have an opportunity to play, whether it's baseball or softball. If you have a disability, it shouldn't prohibit you from playing. And this miracle field gives those young people the opportunity," USC Athletic Director Ray Tanner said.
Tanner said bringing a Miracle League field to Columbia has been a dream of his.
