South Carolina reserve QB Scarnecchia out for season

COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - South Carolina reserve quarterback Michael Scarnecchia is out of the year after injuring his labrum while working out at home.

Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said Scarnecchia, of Fleming Island, Florida, had surgery soon after getting hurt and will miss the season.

Scarnecchia is a redshirt sophomore who played in one game last season, completing the only pass he threw late in a loss at LSU.

Muschamp has said that last year's starter Perry Orth and freshman Brandon McIlwain separated themselves from the others in the race for starting quarterback. Scarnecchia was in that next level looking to solidify a spot as a backup.
