My Take: Let's build bridges rather than tear them down

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A series of heart-wrenching events have played out across our screens this week. Each leaving people in tears and asking "why?"

It began with the fatal officer-involved shooting of a man outside a Baton Rouge convenience store.
Then, another man was shot and killed by an officer during a traffic stop in Minnesota, the aftermath streamed on Facebook Live.

And then, late Thursday night, the ambush shooting of 12 Dallas law enforcement officers, 5 of whom died. They were all shot by a man said to be fueled by hate and rage. The irony being that his violent attack was carried out during what was supposed to be a peaceful protest.

Emotions are understandably running high right now.  In the days and weeks to come, there will be many frank conversations about where we go next.

Opinions will vary on the solutions, but one thing is undeniable, as U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch put it, violence will never be the answer.

"Now, after the events of this week, Americans across our country are feeling a sense of helplessness, of uncertainty and fear," Lynch said. "Now, these feeling are understandable, and they are justified. But the answer must not be violence. The answer is never violence."

How do we stop senseless deaths? The answer is not easy.

But this weekend, lets use this time for reflection, honest conversations with our neighbors and thoughts on how to build bridges rather than tear them down.

That's my take, what's yours?
