ORANGEBURG, SC (WIS) -

The South Carolina State University Board of Trustees is expected to get an update Monday on the University's financial status.

The Board of Trustees meets at 10 a.m. in Orangeburg.

Finances at SC State have been a big issue and is one of the reasons why the University was placed on probation by SACS.

Since then, interim President Dr. W. Franklin Evans says the University has made improvements in paying its debts, and help is also coming in. In April the Senate Finance Committee approved a plan to forgive more than $15 million in loans to SC State.

Last week, Orangeburg Mayor Michael Butler announced that if the University keeps its accreditation, the city council will donate $1 million to the school.

SACS will decide in June if the school will keep its accreditation.
