COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Rep. Eddie Southard has resigned, saying he wants to protect his family, his honor and the integrity of the House.
Southard is a Republican business owner from Moncks Corner. He was serving his third term in the House. His resignation letter was released Wednesday by his lawyer, Bakari Sellers.
Sellers says Southard agreed with his advice to step down to end what was becoming a personal and political nightmare.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported (http://bit.ly/1VSQNc1 ) that Southard was under investigation over potential sexual harassment of a page. Southard confirmed the investigation to the newspaper Monday, telling a reporter he was promised the allegations weren't going to become public.
Surfside Beach Republican Nelson Hardwick resigned from the House last year after being accused of sexual harassment.
