COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) -- South Carolina head basketball coach Frank Martin, meeting with reporters on Tuesday afternoon, confirmed a report that he met with athletics director Ray Tanner to discuss a contract extension but said that he hasn't been given a formal offer.
Martin said that numbers have not yet been put on the table, but did express appreciation that conversations are happening.
The original report states that Martin has been offered a four-year deal with a raise that would extend him through the 2022 season. Martin is currently in the fourth year of a six-year deal that is set to expire on March 31, 2018. Martin has not received any adjustments to the first contract that he signed on March 27, 2012.
While currently unranked, Martin led the team into the top 25 for the first time since the final week of the 2003-04 season when former head coach Dave Odom took the Gamecocks to the NIT Finals. The Gamecocks (24-7) appear to be headed to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2004 season.
South Carolina begins SEC Tournament play on Friday night against the winner of the Georgia-Mississippi State game. Friday's tip-off is set for approximately 9:30 p.m.
