COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

WIS-TV, the Raycom Media owned legacy NBC affiliate and the #1 local news television station in Columbia, South Carolina (DMA #77) is pleased to announce meteorologist Robb Ellis is joining the WIS-TV First Alert Weather team as chief meteorologist.

Ellis comes to WIS-TV from WISH in Indianapolis where he was the weekday evening meteorologist.  Prior to joining WISH, Ellis was a meteorologist at WECT/WSFX in Wilmington, NC.  He has also worked at WFMY in Greensboro, NC and spent seven years as a scientist and researcher working with the State Climate Offices of North and South Carolina.

Ellis grew up in Columbia, SC, attended Spring Valley High School, and he studied at the University of South Carolina before transferring to North Carolina State University where he received his degree in meteorology.

“We’re excited to have Robb join WIS and head up the First Alert Team," WIS-TV news director Bryan Queen said. "From hurricanes, tornadoes, and thunderstorms he’s tracked them all and is passionate about giving viewers the information they need to prepare.”

“I’m excited to come home where my passion for weather began,” Ellis said. “From summertime thunderstorms to learning first-hand how Hurricane Hugo affected our state, I know how important weather is to the people of the Midlands. It’s humbling to be able to forecast for the station that I grew up watching.”

“We are excited to bring Robb Ellis, a native son of Columbia, back home to WIS,” Vice President and General Manager Lyle Schulze said. “Robb grew up watching WIS and now realizes a dream come true by leading the First Alert Team. Robb’s knowledge of the Carolinas’ weather patterns, in particular the Midlands, will be extremely beneficial to WIS viewers.”

Ellis will make the move to Columbia in early March and will start preparing viewers for whatever Mother Nature has in store later in the month.
