University of South Carolina head baseball coach Chad Holbrook is hoping a concert with twenty-time Grammy winner Vince Gill at the Township Auditorium in January will be a sellout.
Gill will be joined by special guests Jenny Gill and Patrick Davis in a concert in which all proceeds will benefit the Reece Holbrook Win Anyway Foundation.
Reece is Holbrook's son who was diagnosed with Leukemia at the age of two. Reece took chemotherapy for three years and two months and was declared in remission in 2007.
Chad and his wife Jennifer started the foundation in 2012 to provide support for seriously ill children and their families, the facilities that treat them and other charitable causes.
"Reece is 13, and he's doing very well and we've been blessed," Holbrook said. "But there are a lot of kids that aren't doing so well. Reece is one of the lucky ones, and until we can get everybody like Reece we want to keep fighting."
Joining them in the fight is country music star and Hall of Famer Vince Gill.
"I'm close friends with a friend in the coaching business who happens to be very close with Vince," Holbrook said during a live interview on WIS Sunrise. "Earlier in Reece's diagnosis when he was going through treatment he was very, very sick and we just put our heads together and we thought it would be great if Vince would come play a show for Reece,"
Gill did just that when the Holbrooks lived in North Carolina, and the concert helped raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. Ever since, the Holbrooks have stayed in touch with Gill.
"We asked him to come to Columbia about a year ago, and he said 'I'm in again!'" Holbrook said. "He's committed to this cause, he wants to help all he can and we can't thank him enough."
The concert is happening on Friday, January 15th at the Township Auditorium at 7 p.m. Holbrook is hoping to sell all the tickets.
"One thing Vince said was, 'I'll come to Columbia, but you got promise me one thing… that you'll sell out that venue,'" Holbrook said. "I said, 'Well I'm going to work very, very hard at it.' So we're going to do everything we can to sell it out, but we still have some more to sell. So on January 15th, Friday night, please join us It will be a great night, and we may have a few surprise guests, as well. It should be a special, special night for our kids in this area and our Children's Hospital."
