CALHOUN COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A Grand Jury has indicted a Calhoun County man charged with animal cruelty.
The assistant district solicitor tells WIS Ronald Hevener, 64, was indicted Friday on five counts of ill-treatment of animals. Two of the counts are felonies.
Hevener was charged in April when investigators found several horses at his farm in poor health. Although Hevener promised to improve conditions for the horses, Calhoun County deputies say they did not see improvement on a second visit to the farm.
Investigators seized 29 horses after the second visit.
Hevener is due in court on September 8.
