COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Richland County sheriff's deputies have arrested a man wanted in connection with the murder of a man found dead at an apartment complex on Longcreek Drive.

According to Sheriff Leon Lott, the death of Khalil Harris, 21, stemmed from an earlier argument between him and the suspect, Marcel Thompson, 22.

Thompson, according to Lott, shot Harris multiple times. Harris was transported to Palmetto Health Richland where he was later pronounced dead. Lott said the incident is believed to have gang ties and could be related to other incidents in Richland County.

Thompson's criminal background dates back to 2013 and includes mostly arrests by the North Charleston Police Department. He still has two pending charges from 2013 from that agency, which are unlawful carrying of a weapon and weapons, sale or delivery of a pistol to and possession by certain persons unlawful. He also had a conviction from 2014 on a marijuana drug charge and was ordered to pay a fine. According to a SLED background check, this is the first time Thompson has been arrested by the Richland County Sheriff's Department.
