To fully appreciate our current mission and vision for the future, you must first look at our past.
Since its humble beginnings in 1953, The Methodist Oaks has been fulfilling dreams.
The vision of a home for seniors came to fruition for Reverend Dr. J. F. M. Hoffmeyer, our founder and many others when the South Carolina Methodist Conference purchased the 113 acres of property now known as The Methodist Oaks. Located three miles south of Orangeburg, S.C., today The Methodist Oaks is situated on 700 acres of land. The land had previously served as a World War II training base for French and American Air Cadets.
Within two months of purchase, the first ten residents, Dr. and Mrs. Hoffmeyer, and a staff of dedicated workers moved onto the campus. The commitment and foresight of our founder, friends, leaders, and residents enabled The Methodist Oaks to continue and eventually flourish into our current continuing care retirement community. The original barracks have been replaced with modern, state-of-the-art buildings. The even terrain has been beautifully landscaped with shade trees and relaxing picnic and recreational areas.
At The Methodist Oaks, the well-being of our residents is foremost. We believe overall health includes spiritual, physical and emotional well being. Our mission is to provide superior continuing care retirement living and a working environment that nourishes the human spirit and preserves personal dignity by addressing the whole person in an atmosphere which witnesses Christian values and love.
Our main complex centralizes resident services as well as houses our residential rooms and assisted living units. Here you will find the activities area, dining rooms, clinic, chapel, library, gift shop, banking services and two beauty shops. Adjacent to our main complex is the Walsh Apartments with one, two and three bedroom apartments.
Situated within walking distance is the C. Burton Sheffield Nursing Medical Center. It has 155 beds, offering four areas of care: Intermediate Care, Skilled Care, Medicare/Rehabilitation, and Respite.
The Methodist Oaks Retirement Community is pleased to announce its newest residential option…Deerfield Hall. These elegantly designed 1 and 2 - bedroom patio apartments feature beautiful views of our landscaped grounds and surrounding natural areas.
Dreams and reality work hand in hand at The Methodist Oaks. Our founders envisioned quality retirement living. We have ensured that dream since 1953. Today's dream is for us to continue to meet the needs and desires of our residents and to plan for the future.
