GILBERT, SC (WIS) - On Sunday, the community came together to help a Gilbert man raise money for a life-saving surgery scheduled for next week.
A silent auction was held at the Hollow Creek Community Center in Gilbert for Tommy Taylor.
More than a dozen vendors were there with an array of items to bid on, from a week at a beach to an autographed picture of Steve Spurrier.
"We were busy the entire day and it's just good," Taylor's friend Hope Derrick said. "The community comes together, God laid something on your heart to help somebody and people come together. It's a small town and they just care about each other."
He will need surgery every year to replace a device that controls his dangerously high blood pressure.
