The Ray Tanner Foundation, Junior League of Columbia host 'Slam Dunk Back to School Bash'

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Saturday’s Back-to-School Bash was a slam dunk with hundreds of elementary students in attendance.

The Ray Tanner Foundation and the Junior League of Columbia invited over 13,000 student from Carver Lyon, Watkins Naces and Hyatt Park Elementary Schools at C.A. Johnson High School on Saturday.

Thanks to a grant from the Hootie and the Blowfish foundation each student received a backpack from Under Armour filled with school supplies.

"Our Innersole Organization is giving away a new pair of sneakers to every kid who walks through the door so they can have the necessary tools they need to be successful in the classroom,” USC Head Basketball Coach Dawn Staley said.

"We want them to know take this opportunity” USC Athletics Director Ray Tanner’s Wife Karen said. “Let it be a spring board that propels you forward in your life to say, "OK, somebody cares about me so what will I do. It's a partnership."

Students were also able to get a free dental exam and vision screenings.

Any student of the three schools who could not attend Saturday's event will get their backpack and school supplies through their school.
