Storms left thousands without power in Midlands

Crews from South Carolina Electric and Gas have been working overnight to restore power to some customers.

According to the SCE&G website, almost 20,000 power outages were reported after thunderstorms at around 5:00 p.m. Thursday.

The town of Camden was without power as of 9:50 p.m. Thursday. Duke Energy provides power to the town, and their power supply failed. About 10,000 customers had been without power since 7 p.m. Duke had to restore power to two of three substations.

A line of severe thunderstorms pushed through the area around rush hour Thursday afternoon bringing heavy heavy rain and strong winds.
