COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Bill Dukes of Chapin dreamed of being an Air Force pilot, but it turns out he was too tall to qualify.
The Air Force put him in food service, an assignment that changed his life. Dukes founded the Longhorn Steakhouse chain and later opened the Blue Marlin in downtown Columbia. He and his family decided to make South Carolina their home.
In 2008, Dukes started Honor Flights to take the veterans of America's wars to visit the monuments in Washington. His dad was on the first flight. Now Dukes is serving the military again in a new role as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of The Army.
He's on a mission to build bridges between the military & local communities and to share the Army story everywhere he goes.
