SHAW AIR FORCE BASE, SC (AP) - A new general has taken over as head of U.S. Air Force operations in the 20-nation region from the Mideast into southwestern Asia that is headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base.
Lt. Gen. Charles Brown took control of U.S. Air Force's Central Command on Monday from Lt. Gen. John Hesterman III, who took the job in July 2013.
The commander of the U.S. Central Command, Gen. Lloyd Austin III, presided over the ceremony and thanked Hesterman for his service, saying he had provided outstanding leadership during the ongoing air operations in Iraq and Syria.
The command also has an operating base at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, where the air commander is expected to spend most of his time.
