3 people shot at Last Thursday event in NE Portland; teen suspect arrested

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -

Police said a 16-year-old boy was arrested as the suspect in a shooting at the Last Thursday event on Northeast Alberta Street that injured three people.

Officers assigned to the event Thursday evening heard gunshots, found three shooting victims nearby and ran down the suspect.

Police said the victims are two 15-year-old boys and a 25-year-old woman. Firefighters said they were all taken to the hospital and expected to survive.

The area from Northeast 19th Avenue to 21st Avenue on Alberta Street was closed as part of the crime scene. Police said the shooting happened near Northeast 21st and Alberta.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect running south. Officers chased the suspect down and said they found a handgun. He was arrested and booked in the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home.

The shooting is believed to be gang-related, according to investigators.

Two men who police said were not directly involved in the shooting were also arrested. Marcus Cooper, 26, and Loren Ware, 23, face charges of interfering with police, disorderly conduct in the first degree, harassment and resisting arrest.

Last Thursday is a monthly community event with art vendors, musicians and performers highlighting the Alberta Arts District. Police estimated there were 1,000 people were in the area at the time of the shooting Thursday.
