COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Good morning, WIS friends. Here are your three things to know as you head out the door Wednesday:
1.) More SC State Debate: After failing to reach a compromise on the firing of SC State's Board of Trustees, a six-member committee will meet again in the State House to work on a solution. The big disagreement is over who should appoint the new trustees. The House wants the treasurer and comptroller general to appoint a board member each for more statewide accountability. Senators say they can't accept that because it would make the board too big at seven members.
2.) Tackling Obesity: Military officials say obesity has become the leading medical reason as to why most young adults cannot serve in our nation's armed forces. A new report expected to be released today from the group "Mission: Readiness" points to a need for better nutrition in our schools. The group of retired military generals and admirals are urging state lawmakers to support legislation that ensures that all South Carolina students have access to healthy food during the school day.
3.) Watch Out for Bikes: Nearly 40 communities around the state have events planned for children to ride their bikes for "Bike to School" day. The event was created to raise awareness for the need for safer routes for bicycling and walking and to encourage physical activity.
The WIS News 10 Storm Team forecasts another great spring day coming our way. You can expect sunny skies and low humidity with highs in the middle 80s.
