COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Research compiled by the WIS Investigative team, along with data released by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, gives insight about officer-involved shootings in our state.
So far this year, there have been a total of 35 officer-involved shootings in South Carolina. Of those shootings, 12 suspects have been killed; eight suspects have been injured; and five officers were injured. In 2014, the state had 42 officer-involved shootings, which resulted in one officer's death; nine officers being injured; 20 suspects injured and 18 suspects killed.
The offenses that led to the shootings for both years of data include serving warrants, domestic issues and traffic stops, among other charges.
