A mistrial has been declared in the case of several suspected members of a Mexican drug cartel charged with the kidnapping of a St. Matthews man.

Juan Fuentes-Morales and Ruben Ceja-Rangel are charged with kidnapping, hostage-taking, use of firearms, and several other federal charges stemming from the incident that occurred in July 2014.

Fuentes-Morales and Ceja-Rangel are accused of kidnapping a 23-year-old man from his St. Matthews home in July 2014. The man was rescued by federal agents six days later from a home in Roseboro, North Carolina.

Arrest documents say Fuentes-Morales, Ceja Rangel, and Louis Castro Villeda kidnapped the victim because he and his father did not pay them for 200 pounds of marijuana the three suspected delivered.

Villeda previously pleaded guilty in the case.

As many as 50 witnesses testified in the case. There's no word whether the government will try the case again.
