WIS Investigates: Experts identify puppy mills as a thriving business in SC

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Are they man's best friend or man's cash cow?

WIS Investigates Backyard Breeders, putting their bottom line ahead of their merchandise, and where these puppies come from may have lasting effects.

“They just live such a horrible life in a small cage their entire life,” said Denise Wilkinson, of Pawmetto Lifeline.

Those that don't find a home often meet an inhumane fate.

“They either put them in the garbage or bury them,” said Holly Wagner, of the Richland County Sheriff's Department. “Or they leave them in a cage and don't feed them and they die.”

WIS goes undercover to show you what puppy mills look like in your community and what you need to know before you take your next pet home. Watch the full story tonight at 5.
