COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - Hundreds of fans waited for hours for the University of South Carolina Women's basketball team to get back from Greensboro after their win over Florida State that advanced them to the Final Four for the first time in team history.
The Gamecocks made it back to Columbia just after 7:30 Sunday night, hours after the Gamecocks beat Florida State 80-74 Sunday to advance to the Final Four in Tampa.
Head coach Dawn Staley and the team are looking forward to heading to Florida this weekend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
The team had an explosive audience in Greensboro as Gamecock fans traveled by bus to support their beloved team.
"Whooa, I don't doubt doubt Dawn Staley she always have something in the cover baby, it is on! Yes, Florida!" said Sylvia Golston.
"Just unbelievably proud and when they are down they pick themselves up and go for it every time, I love it!" said JoAnne Sheler.
"I feel like I played! I'm worn out. I am tired," said Bakari Sellers. "We cheered, I'm going hoarse, I'm just so proud of these Gamecocks. They made the whole city proud. They made the whole state proud. Go Cocks means a lot to us today."
"I'm speechless now. I'm so thankful that they won because they are a group of ladies who have the right attitude. It was great that they were able to win such a big game."
When asked what statement he thought the Gamecock Women's basketball team made Sunday, Grady Johnson responded, "That we're ready to play UCONN. Let's bring it."
First, Connecticut has to get past Dayton tonight before advancing to the Final Four.
