South Carolina women ranked 2nd by AP, highest preseason ranking in team history
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -
The South Carolina women's basketball team is ranked 2nd in the Associated Press Preseason Poll, the highest preseason ranking in team history.
All five starters and 10 letter winners from the SEC Championship squad return for the Gamecocks this season. The women won 29 games last season, the second most in school history. They also earned South Carolina's first No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
The No. 2 ranking is the highest in Coach Dawn Staley's career, surpassing the No. 4 spot the Gamecocks held for two weeks last season.
The Gamecocks host Coker Sunday, Nov. 2 in an exhibition game at Colonial Life Arena. The game starts at 3. The season opener is Saturday, Nov. 15 against Southern California.
