MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WIS) - When the season comes to an end, many high school football players from the Midlands will have one more contest to play before ending their high school careers.
On Monday, 28 players from the region were selected to play in this year's Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. The game, formerly known as the North-South All-Star Game, will take place at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach on December 13.
This year's North team, led by Lower Richland head coach Darryl Page, will boast 17 players on the 44-man squad. Among those who will make the trip and play for Page that weekend are defensive back Shadarius Hopkins and linebacker D.J. Padgett of Fairfield Central. Wide receiver Adonus Lee and Stephen Timmons of Westwood were also selected as well as A.C. Flora defensive back Denzel Johnson and defensive lineman Tyrell Goodwin.
The North will take on a South team that will have 11 players from the Midlands.
Clemson commit and Bamberg-Ehrhardt defensive lineman LaSamuel Davis will be on hand for the South along with UNC commit and Swansea standout Johnathan Sutton. Gilbert's Jakayus Leaphart, Lakewood's Khafari Buffalo and River Bluff's Whitt Warner also earned spots on the South team.
