INTERACTIVE MAP: Same-sex marriage by county in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

With the decision to accept same-sex marriage license applications in Charleston County, a whole new level of legal wrangling has begun for same-sex marriage supporters in the Palmetto State. 

This interactive map feature shows off which counties in South Carolina are currently accepting applications versus those that aren't.

  • Red County: This county is not currently accepting same-sex marriage applications.
  • Yellow County: This county is accepting same-sex marriage applications, but is waiting for an answer from the courts or the attorney general's office on how to proceed with them.
  • Green County: This county is accepting same-sex marriage applications and will issue licenses after a waiting period.
