COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - A workout movement that's spreading across the nation has now arrived in South Carolina.
It's called Barre 3, and the new studio officially opens Monday on Rosewood Drive. The workout combines yoga, pilates, and ballet barre with a focus on an overall balanced lifestyle.
Exercises range from using the ballet barre to group combination work and low-impact cardio in the center of the room.
"We move in small, one inch movements, and we want to create those Barre 3 earthquakes where we're recruiting all these muscle fibers," Lauren Truslow, Barre 3's owner, said. "But then we move big so you feel that intensity in that one inch, then we move larger range of motion that's going to flesh out the body and give you a little reprieve."
Barre 3 began back in 2008 and is a branch off the Barre fitness movement.
The studio is the first of its kind in South Carolina, and Truslow says anyone can do participate in the workout.
"We use modifications and options for everything so that everyone feels successful in our class and feels like they can do it from 18 to 80," Truslow said. "The great thing is it goes by so fast, because we're moving and moving, and then at the 60 minutes you feel pretty good. You feel ready to go."
The studio if offering free classes Oct. 6 -12. Some of the classes will also have complimentary child care.
