Chapin Mayor Skip Wilson has called a special town council meeting for Thursday.

The meeting comes after Lexington County election officials approved a September 30th date to vote on the town's form of government.

The mayor says the purpose of Thursday's meeting is to discuss the legalities of that special election date, which has been a source of contention between council members and Wilson for weeks.

An opinion issued last week by the state Attorney General says the mayor cannot set an election date on his own; it must be done by the entire town council.

Chapin operates under a strong mayor form of government. Voters will decide if the town will change to a form of government that takes away some of the mayor's powers and puts them into the hands of city council.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m.
