PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — The 12th-ranked South Carolina men's golf team posted a final-round 365 (+5) on Sunday to finish in sixth place at The Carmel Cup at the Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Gamecocks wrapped up the weekend with a 54-hole total of 1,079 (-1), with five scores counting all three days. Georgia won with a total of 1,063 (-17), followed by Vanderbilt (1,068), TCU (1,074), Texas Tech (1,075) and Oklahoma (1,075).
Senior Caleb Sturgeon led the way for Carolina, recording his ninth career top-10 finish as he tied for 10th with a total of 213 (-3) after shooting a 74 (+2) on Sunday.
Junior Will Starke carded the lowest round of the day for the Gamecocks as he turned in a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 13th with a total of 215 (-1). Sophomore Ben Dietrich tied for 15th with a total of 216 (E), following a round of 74 (+2) on Sunday. Junior Matt NeSmith carded a final-round 75 (+3) to finish tied for 26th with a total of 218 (+2), while senior Will Murphy and junior Sean Kelly both finished tied for 29th with a total of 221 (+5). Murphy turned in an even-par 72, and Kelly shot a 74 (+2) on Sunday.
Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart claimed medalist honors with a total of 205 (-11).
Starke climbed eight spots up the leaderboard into the top 15 with a 1-under 71 on Sunday. He made the turn at 2-under after recording three birdies and a bogey on the front nine. He got to 3-under on the day with a birdie on the par-3 12th but made a double bogey and a bogey to go along with another birdie down the stretch to finish at 1-under.
