AUBURN, AL (WSFA) -

The Auburn Tigers defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday by a score of 45-21 to start the 2014 season.

From the way things looked on Saturday, the Auburn offense has not slowed down since 2013.

The offense stepped on the gas at the beginning of the game and never let up. One trend that the Tigers continued in Saturday's game was scoring more than 30 points a game. In 2013, The Tigers scored 30 points in ten consecutive games for the first time in school history.

The Tigers opened up their season against the Razorbacks with a new quarterback under center.

Former Carver Wolverine standout Jeremy Johnson started the game after Nick Marshall was cited for marijuana possession in Georgia over the summer.

Many wondered how the second year quarterback would do in his first start against an SEC team, and he didn't disappoint.

Johnson went 13-for-17 with 243 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Nick Marshall entered the game in the second half and picked up right where he left off in 2013. Marshall went 4-for-6 for 50 yards through the air. Marshall also had 18 yards rushing on eight attempts.

The Tigers' biggest task was to replace their leading rusher from last year in Tre Mason. I think they found someone.

Cameron Artis-Paynes shredded the Razorback defense with 178 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown. Corey Grant also added 87 yards on ten carries and also recorded a touchdown.

A big surprise was D'haquille Williams who recorded 154 yards on nine receptions for one touchdown. Melvin Ray also had a touchdown on two receptions for 77-yards.

The Auburn defense started off a little rusty, giving up some easy touchdowns to the Razorbacks, but the defensive unit tightened up and only allowed 328 total yards in the game. Defensive back Jermaine Whitehead had an interception in the third quarter that was returned for a touchdown which put the Tigers up by 14.

The only thing that was able to stop the Auburn offense on Saturday was the weather. A lightning delay stopped the game for almost an hour and a half before the teams were able return to the field.

Auburn's next game is at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 against the San Jose State Spartans.
