After attending over 600 Gamecock games, one man says this year will be great

In 48 years, Charles Edmonds has been to more than 600 Gamecock football games. This season, he says, will be special. In 48 years, Charles Edmonds has been to more than 600 Gamecock football games. This season, he says, will be special.
CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

Sporting a black shirt, a Gamecock on his phone, with deep garnet and black roots, Charles Edmonds says Gamecock football is a way of life.

"Well, Carolina is very special to me," said Edmonds. "I'm from Anderson originally and that's too close to Clemson. So, I went to Carolina."

Edmonds graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1966. In 48 years, he's been to more than 600 Gamecock football games and missed only one or two home games.

"I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly," said Edmonds. "This is the good, right now."

He says, Gamecock fans, get ready.

"I think we're going to play more as a team, having the stars like we did last year, Clowney and Shaw," said Edmonds. "I think they're going to be a lot better this year."

It's a statement based off half a century of cheering, with highlights he'll never forget.

"The win over Clemson in '84, when we came back and beat them 22-21," said Edmonds. "George Rogers stands out in my mind."

As for the game opener against Texas A&M, he has clear predictions.

"35-10, Carolina," said Edmonds.

Although he predicts a good season, he's seen it all.

Win or lose, he says he'll still be at Williams Brice Stadium.

"I sit kind of above where the Gamecocks come out of the tunnel," said Edmonds. "I say, Go Cocks!"

It's a tradition, he says, that will last a lifetime.

"Until I get unable to go," said Edmonds.
