Tropical Storm Cristobal should stay away from SC coast

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Tropical Storm Cristobal will stay away from the U.S. coastline as a trough picks it up and carries it out to sea late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.

The system is expected to become a category 1 hurricane by Wednesday but stay well off our coast, therefore we expect little or no impacts here in the Midlands.

There is still some uncertainty in the exact track of Cristobal, if it moves closer to the coast, beach areas may have a few additional clouds and showers from the system, with an increase in rip currents and higher waves Tuesday thru Thursday.

Stay tuned to WIS for the latest information.
