CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

An incident report from the Charleston Police Department confirms a 15-year-old is behind bars after tossing a handgun onto the field at Johnson Hagood Stadium during the Sertoma Classic Friday night.

Police say it all started when officers were advised by an unknown citizen that a male who was at the game might have been in possession of a gun.

According to Charleston police, the suspect was spotted walking down a flight of stairs at the Altman center towards the football field. When the suspect was told to stop, he turned around and went back upstairs.

An incident report states the juvenile tossed a black handgun onto the south side of the end zone near the west corner. The handgun was later recovered from the field just below the stairwell, officials report.

According to police, the gun was loaded.

Police say the teenager, from North Charleston, was arrested and transported to the Charleston County Department of Juvenile Justice
